Burlodge Canada Donates to a Very Worthy Cause

Again this year the staff at Burlodge Canada decided to forego an internal company gift exchange and instead take the $20 that we would spend on each other and donate the proceeds to a worthy cause. The company also matched the employee contribution as the company was able to save postage by using an electronic holiday card. I am proud to say that we have a total of $750 dollars to donate this year during the holiday season.

Burlodge determined that a suitable charity should be one that is local as we (Burlodge Canada) have been in Brampton for over 15 years now and we value the local community we work and live in. Giving back to our community is important. We also felt that we should donate our funds toward foodservice as much as possible as we serve our market in this way. Furthermore, our company theme and culture embraces the values and beliefs of family, mutual respect, openness and trust, as well as flexibility and change. We searched for an organization that: supports families in need and makes children’s' lives better, helps others find respect, supports others while they go through a change in their life, and provides food and other comforts to those less fortunate. We found a local charitable organization called Interim Place.

Interim Place is a shelter for abused women and their children and each year at this special time of year they reach out to the community and ask people to participate in the Circle of Care Program. What this program does is provide a person (a mother for example) who has come from an abused relationship and who may have been at the shelter and is now in the community, with gift cards to use at local stores so they can buy food and gifts for the holiday season. We thank Interim Place for hosting us before Christmas at one of their shelters so we could present our staff and company gift to them.

Interim Place provides shelter, support, counselling and advocacy to help abused women and their children break the cycle of abuse. Interim Place provides services in a manner that honours the diversity of women and children of Peel Region.

Burlodge donates considerable funds each year to Children’s Charities as well as to Hospital Foundations, Cancer Research, and Volunteer Organizations. We are proud that we are able to reach out to others in this way and especially proud of our staff who joined together this year to make the holiday season a little more special and bring joy to women and children who have not seen enough kindness in their lives.
